Seniors nationwide enjoy nutritious meals thanks to the important work of MOWAA. The LHC Group donation will support the charity’s efforts to ensure no senior goes hungry.

“Our company is privileged to provide health care at home to tens of thousands of frail, elderly men and women across the nation,” said Keith G. Myers, LHC Group’s chairman and CEO. “Our clinicians have seen firsthand the important work being done by Meals On Wheels, and we are proud to partner with this outstanding organization to improve the well-being of our nation’s seniors.”

Recent research has found that 7.5 million seniors face the threat of hunger in the United States – or nearly one in seven senior adults. These seniors are more likely to have limitations in activities of daily living and be in poor health.

Don Stelly, LHC Group’s president and COO and a registered nurse, said proper nutrition is an essential component of overall health for senior adults.

“Eating well is the right thing to do at any age, but a proper diet is particularly important as we grow older,” Stelly said. “A healthy diet can reduce the risk for many conditions associated with aging – everything from anemia and high blood pressure to hip fractures and chronic wounds.

“Through our support of the Meals On Wheels Association of America, we hope to raise awareness of this important issue.”

The donation to MOWAA continues an LHC Group holiday tradition of charitable support. In 2010, the company made a donation to Toys for Tots during the Christmas season.

NFL quarterback Jake Delhomme teamed up with LHC Group to promote this year’s donation to MOWAA through displays that have been distributed in communities the company’s member agencies serve.
