State Rep. Tony Ligi, R-Metairie, will be visiting various areas of the state to explain State Constitutional Amendment No. 5 (Act No. 868 of the 2012 legislative session) which will be on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Rep. Ligi authored the amendment with Rep. Simone Champagne, R-Jeanerette. The amendment, if approved by popular vote, would give the Louisiana Legislature the authority to provide for forfeiture of retirement benefits by a person who is a member of a public retirement system and who is convicted of a felony related to his office.

Rep Ligi stated, “Since the amendment appears in the middle of what is a long ballot, I want to make sure that voters are aware of it and understand it. It took five years to get this amendment before voters so I want to make sure that it gets full scrutiny and support of voters.”

Anyone interested in having Rep. Ligi provide an explanation of the amendment should contact his legislative assistant, Shannon Yarbrough at 504.456.3173 or email a request to Ligit@legis.la.gov.
