It was an exciting morning on the campus of Zachary High School Thursday, April 21, as Nathan Richardson signed with Louisiana College to play soccer before his family, friends, coaches and teammates.

Richardson has been playing soccer for the same coach, Scott Delholm, since the age of five.

"It's great to see someone stick with the sport for so long," said Delholm, head soccer coach at Zachary High. "He is very dedicated."

Delholm has watched Richardson grow over the years as an athlete. "He went from being the most improved player as a sophomore to team captain in his junior year," Delholm said. "As a senior he was my top goal scorer, and he made All-District First Team. I'm very excited and proud of him."

Richardson said he liked the small campus at Louisiana College saying "it's like a little family there."

Richardson's family is very proud of his accomplishments as well. "We're really excited for him," said Tracy Huggins, Richardson's mother. "Excited that he'll be playing at a college level."

Coach Delholm predicts his team will make the Regional play-offs next season despite losing Richardson and three other seniors.

We surely hope they go all the way!
