First- and second-grade students in the Zachary Community School District moved into the new $18 million Rollins Place Elementary Tuesday.

Set on a 69-acre tract of land that shares space with Zachary Early Learning Center for PreKindergarten students, Rollins Place is a 105,000 square foot building that will teach first- and second-grade students.

Teachers and workers have been moving furniture, setting up classrooms and installing equipment in efforts to ensure students had a great first day at Rollins Place.

Zachary's first-graders were attending Northwestern Elementary, which now becomes an all-kindergarten facility.
Second-graders were attending Zachary Elementary along with third-graders.

There are currently about 400 pupils in both the first- and second-grades and the new school, with its 42 classrooms, can hold up to 1,000.

More to come on Rollins Place Elementary in the Jan. 30 issue of the Zachary Plainsman-News.
