Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Indian Bayou Methodist Church for Ronald Garrett, 77, of Indian Bayou, who died at 3 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.

Burial was in Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Larry Maxwell officiating.

Visitation was observed Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of service.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Margie Garrett of Indian Bayou; three sons, Marvin and his wife Becky Garrett of Richardson, Tx, Ronnie and his wife Kelly Garrett of Lafayette, Danny and his wife Dana Garrett of Lafayette; two daughters, Darlene and her husband Robert Powell of Rayne, and Margie and her husband Mike Gabrielle of Wasilla, Alaska; two brothers, Larry Kidd of Glen Rose, Wyoming, and Lindy Kidd of Nesland, South Dakota; two sisters, Gloria Gustafson and Eleanor Mae Simmons, both of Nesland, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren, Dana, Tracy, Brian, Bobby Layne, Ryan, Rae-Lynne, Megan, Micah, Kirby, Stephanie, Wendi Jo, Lauren, and Karelyn; and two great-grandchildren, Michael, and Hannah.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Ben and Edith Kidd; and one sister, Delores.

Pallbearers were Honor Guard members from Fort Polk.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Powell, Ryan Powell, Brian Garrett, Bobby Layne Powell, Kirby Garrett and Micah Gabrielle.

He served in the United State Army during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era earning the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He saw two tours of duty overseas in Germany and retired in 1970 after 20 years of service to his country. Upon retirement, he was a Platoon Sergeant for the Army.

He treasured his reunions with 2-1 CAV comrades.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
