After making the tough decision to disband the Zachary Area French Preservation Club, its core members donated the club's remaining funds to Dr. William Arceneaux, head of the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL).

On Wednesday, Sept. 5, members of ZAFPC met at Cajun Catch to present a check for $1,111.59.

Dr. Arceneaux said the money will be used to further the vision of the organization by helping to send a Louisiana-French college student to summer school at LSU or Centenary College and then to study French in Paris for one year.

CODOFIL is appreciative of the donation. Gov. Jindal recently vetoed the $100,000 that is intended annually for CODOFIL. "The French community is alive and well in the Zachary area," said Kathy Mier. "We'll continue preserving, living and teaching our culture." Activities planned for the very near future include Table Francais, a Cajun Fais Do Do, Genealogy workshops, French Plantation tours and more.

Mier said all French community activities will be handled in an 'open to the public' format, and all are welcome to participate.
