The Zachary High School Golf team and head coach Clark Engemann were honored at the Zachary Community School Board (ZCSB) meeting on Thursday, May 10.

Coach Engemann told attendees of the ZCSB meeting that the team has grown immensely over the past three years. "We've grown by leaps and bounds," Engemann said.

Engemann - head coach for the past three years - thanked ZHS Principal Wes Watts, Athletic Director Joey Sanchez, staff support member Dianne LeBlanc, players' parents and Blaine Patin for helping with golf swings. "We thank you all for your support this year," said Engemann.

Last year, the boy’s golf team won the Class 5A Regionals - the first in the high school's history - which allowed them to be hosts of this year's Regional Championships at Copper Mill Golf Club, held May 2.

Engemann said five ZHS golfers captured a share of the State Championship title at Copper Mill Golf Club: Drew Patin, Peyton McCulloch, Bryce Bonin, Jonathan Davis and Matthew Chastain. Senior Drew Patin won state honors in the individual competition. All of the players were commended.

School Board member Carl Kelley presented each ZHS golfer and Coach Engemann with a certificate in recognition of their achievements.

The ZHS Golf team is: Coach Clark Engemann, Chance Beadle, Bryce Bonin, Hunter Campbell, Matthew Chastain, Jonathan Davis, Connor Haynes, Trey McCleary, Peyton McCulloch and Drew Patin.

In addition, the ZHS Boys and Girls Track teams both had a spectacular showing at the state track meet held May 5 at LSU. The Bronco Boys finished in 4th place, and the Bronco girls tied for 7th.

Senior Mason Pace, also this past season's starting Bronco quarterback, is the state champion in the javelin.

Coach Chris Carrier said this was Pace's first season to throw the javelin.

Sophomore Kenyetta Franklin is the state champion in the girls 300 meter hurdles.

Pace, Franklin and Coach Carrier were all honored May 10 by the Zachary Community School Board.
