The Zachary High School Jazz Ensemble is pleased to announce their guest artist for the first ever Alumni Spotlight Concert. This year, Dr. Eddie Elsey, a 1995 ZHS graduate and Zachary native, will be featured. After graduating at ZHS, Dr. Elsey received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Northwestern State University. He received his Masters of Music in trombone performance in 2001, and Doctor of Musical Arts in trombone performance and pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2008.

Dr. Elsey is an award winning soloist, and has performed with the ensemble named “HubBones” that was the 2002 Eastern Trombone Workshop winner of the National Jazz Ensemble Competition. He has also performed with numerous orchestras throughout Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, and is in demand as a soloist, adjudicator, and clinician throughout the southern region of the United States. He won the “Brass Division” and the “Silver Medal Award” in the 1st annual Corinth Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition.

Dr. Elsey is also a member of several professional organizations including the International Trombone Association, the International Tuba/Euphonium Association, The International Association of Jazz Educators, the Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Music Society, the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity and the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity of America.

He was also a part of the jazz trombone sextet “HubBones”, which was the 2002 Eastern Trombone Workshop winner of the National Jazz Ensemble Competition.

While in town, Dr. Elsey will lead masterclasses for Zachary High students in the areas of Low Brass and Improvisation. In addition, he will perform as the featured artist in Zachary’s first ever Alumni Spotlight Concert. The concert will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Zachary. Admission is FREE of charge.
