A Zachary Fire Department spokesperson said the call came into Station 82 - Flonacher Road - at 11:27 a.m. on June 8, reporting a fire in progress at Sweetbriar Estates trailer park.
Firefighters were on the scene within seven minutes, the spokesperson said.
The fire, which started in the back bedroom of the trailer quickly spread and took five volunteer firefighters and seven career firefighters to extinguish the flames.
The occupants of the mobile home - Keeta Smith and her four small children - escaped the fire with only minutes to spare. Smith's husband was away working in Arkansas. "We only had time to grab what we're wearing and get out," said the emotional mother, holding her crying daughter. "It took us seven years to pay this trailer off and now this."
Baton Rouge Fire Department responded as a back-up crew and EMS and East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office deputies also responded to the scene.
It is unknown at this time what caused the blaze.
Red Cross was called for the family, and no injuries were sustained in the blaze.
