By purchasing a pink helmet, which Zachary firefighters will wear on all calls during the month of October, businesses will be able to donate to breast cancer research and awareness.
"It works like this," Capt. Gordon Lipscomb explained. "A company purchases a pink helmet and will own it for the year. They get to keep the helmet in their business except during the month of October, when a firefighter will be wearing it."
Helmets cost $300 for the first year and will be inscribed with the company's name, the year they "own" it, ZFD's name and the firefighter's name who wore it in October.
"This a great fundraiser for a great foundation," said Lipscomb, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor. "Each day in October, your pink helmet will be worn by a Zachary firefighter and after the month has ended, your helmet will be returned to you to display in your business as you like."
Next year, the firefighter who wore a company's helmet, will return to the business and pick up the helmet - but this time it will only cost $100 to participate. The firefighter will again wear it during the month of October.
For each year a business participates, that year will be inscribed on the helmet and then returned once October has passed.
After the initial cost of $300, it's $100 to participate. If a business chooses not to participate for a year, then the helmet will go to another business and that year will not be inscribed next to the business' name.
All funds raised benefit breast cancer research.
