Baker High School's Head Softball Coach, Jennifer Ridgell, lost her best friend to breast cancer about six months ago.

She said she knew she must do something, i n order to give back and not let her friend's death be in vain.

To honor her friend, Ridgell organized Spike for Victory, a series of volleyball games played between Baker teachers and students to raise awareness for the Susan G. Komen For the Cure breast cancer awareness foundation.

Following the matches, held Friday morning, Oct. 22, the students and faculty took to the football field to release pink balloons in honor of Ridgell's friend and all those who have lost the battle to breast cancer and those who have survived it.

To release a balloon, students and teachers were required to make a donation; the money raised went towards the fight against breast cancer.

BHS raised $1,026.66 for the cause. For more Spike for Victory and balloon release photos, please visit Zacharytoday.com/Galleries/Spike for Victory.
