The Zachary Community School District and Zachary High School premiered their new gymnasium complex to the community on Tuesday, Nov. 9. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held inside the competition gym as the ZHS Lady Broncos scrimmaged Dutchtown High School.

Superintendent Warren Drake thanked those in attendance for helping celebrate the opening of the complex.

School Board president Hubie Owen thanked everyone for voting 'yes' on the bond proposal, and said that the gym would be here for another 50 or 60 years for the community to enjoy.

Director of Operations Scott Devillier and Principal Wes Watts welcomed Zachary city officials and leaders, community members and school district personnel.

"This is a beautiful building built for the Zachary community...and that's what it's really all about, the community and for the kids," said Devillier.

The gym complex holds a capacity of 1,691 and has three gyms: a competition gym, located in the center of the complex that will host girls and boys basketball and volleyball games, and Bronco wrestling meets.

On both sides of the competition gym are auxiliary gyms, or physical education gyms, each with a set of locker rooms for the athletes and students. Coaches offices are also located inside each of the auxiliary gyms.

ZCSD program manager for the gymnasium complex is CSRS/Abigail Brown; architects are Holly & Smith from Hammond, and contractors are Percy J. Matherne from Baton Rouge.

On Saturday, Nov. 13, the Biddy basketball league played their first games of the season in the new gymnasium.
