Law enforcement arrest 39 in the Avenue Area Neighborhood Initiative

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office along with the Baton Rouge City Constables Office, Baton Rouge Police, Probation and Patrol the EBR District Attorney’s Office and Delta Drug Task Force carried out a neighborhood initiative Tuesday evening in the area of the Avenues, which is Mills to Blount Road and Scenic Highway to the River, in order to create a safer environment for residents that resulted in 39 arrests and the clearing of 108 outstanding warrants that ranged from traffic violations to drug possession. Law enforcement also seized one gun and 17 grams of cocaine.

During the initiative, law enforcement arrested Spencer Lee George, 50, as a fugitive from Baker Police and for possession with intent to distribute cocaine. George was in possession of 17 grams of cocaine at the time of arrest.

Law enforcement also arrested Edmond Chambers, 22, for illegal carrying of a weapon when they discovered he had a loaded 9mm Hi Point in his possession.

Louise Jones, 42, was also arrested for 19 outstanding city court warrants, two other court warrants and an expired driver’s license.

This is one of many initiatives for the Sheriff’s and Constable’s Office. Similar initiatives in other areas collectively resulted in hundreds of arrests and cleared more than 1,000 outstanding warrants.

The agencies conducted criminal patrols, bike patrols, traffic safety checkpoints and foot patrols going door to door in the various area talking to residents in an effort to foster a safer environment in the neighborhood. Divisions represented from the Sheriff's Office were Community Policing Unit, K-9, Detectives, Narcotics, SCAT, Armed Robbery and Burglary, Auto Theft, Financial Crimes, Warrants, Civil and representatives from each substation. Supervisors, including Sheriff Gautreaux, colonels, majors and captains from each division were present.
