Baker school board members and superintendent take office

A newly elected Baker School Board was sworn into office by City Court Judge Kirk Williams at the Jan. 4 meeting.

Returning board members Doris Alexander and Dana Carpenter were joined by newcomers to the board Shona Boxie, Elaine Davis and Troy Watson.

Carpenter was elected president and Davis, vice president.

The new board named Ulysses Joseph as interim superintendent replacing Ron Jackson who served for only one month under the outgoing board.

Joseph is a retired Baker school system administrator. Jackson plans to renew his strategic planning contract with the school board.

The board also hired DeCuir, Clark and Adams of Baton Rouge as legal counsel replacing Veronica Sizer, who served for three years as the board’s legal counsel. Sizer’s contract expired Dec. 31.

A reception followed the meeting.

The next regular meeting of the school board will be 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1.
