Beginning with a location change, this year's Relay for Life will be held at the new BREC Zachary Community Park, where phase one has just been completed.
Vines said this year will feature a dog show, live music, volleyball and softball tournaments, food, games, entertainment, birthday recognition, the traditional survivor's walk on the park's new paved path and much more.
Sponsorship packages this year range from the platinum $2,500 to a new $250 banner sponsorship and a fireworks sponsor for $500. T-shirt, brochure and luminaria sponsors will also be available.
"On this one night, we try to imagine ourselves in cancer patients' shoes with every step of the survivors walk. There will always be someone walking on the track," said Vines.
Groups, families, friends, businesses or any type of combination is invited to form a team and walk.
"The money raised goes to help cancer patients get well, stay well and helps fund research to find cures," said Devon McDonel of the American Cancer Society and its largest fundraising event. McDonel is the representative for the ACS in the Greater Baton Rouge area.
Splitting the proceeds with the Relay for Life event, will be the ACS Masquerade Ball on Saturday, March 5, in St. Francisville at the Victorian of the Felicianas, 15379 Hwy. 10. For more information or tickets, $50 per person/$75 per couple, contact Angie Cassard at 936-0718 or Amy Green at 281-5049.
