Mr. and Mrs. Willis Franklin Mashburn of Zachary announce the engagement of their daughter, Claire Lucile Mashburn, to Second Lieutenant Peter Hansel Grooms of Austin. Parents of Lieutenant Grooms are Reverend and Mrs. Ronald Gregory Grooms, also of Austin.

Miss Mashburn is the granddaughter of the late Francis David Harpole of Jackson, Miss., the late Lucile Noble Harpole of Edwards, Miss., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jackson Mashburn, Jr. of Raymond, Miss.

Miss Mashburn is a graduate of Zachary High School and received a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from Louisiana State University in May 2010. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin and will graduate in May 2012.

Lieutenant Grooms is the grandson of Mrs. Hansell Young Grooms and the late Mr. Grooms of Maplesville, Ala., and Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Gerard Smith of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Lieutenant Grooms is a graduate of James Bowie High School in Austin and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Military Strategic Studies and French from the United States Air Force Academy in May 2010. He is currently stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, and will graduate pilot training in the spring of 2012.

Miss Mashburn and Lieutenant Grooms will exchange vows on Friday, December 30, 2011, at Plains Presbyterian Church in Zachary with Reverend Grooms and Reverend Richard Woodson Markert officiating.
