Leadership NORTH is an annual leadership development program for the north Baton Rouge region. It was initiated and organized by the Zachary Chamber of Commerce with assistance from Louisiana Department of Economic Development and LSU Ag Center.

Thirty men and women from four parishes met in St. Francisville’s old town hall on Sept. 8. Participants continued discussions relative to community and regional issues identified by themselves and by other planning efforts currently underway.

They identified and ranked issues based on perceived need and discussed ways to engage themselves in stimulating changes at both the community and regional level.

The curriculum includes nine seminars throughout this year including a trip to the state legislature and visits to other communities involved with similar community and economic development issues.

The group also heard from Dr. Randy Gurie (retired), of LSU, and Dr. Bobby Soileau, who serves as program director of Community Leadership and Economic Development.

Applications will be available in October for Leadership North 2012.
