The parade will be hosted by the 10/31 Consortium, a local non-profit benefiting Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and the Baton Rouge Big Buddy Program. Presenting sponsors include Gerry Lane Enterprises and the 13th Gate Haunted House.
This year’s theme is “First Fright: Something Wicked This Way Comes!” In support of this theme, parade spectators will get to see a variety of costumed characters and floats adorned with an assortment of Halloween decorations.
These include themes such as Alice in Wonderland, Where the Wild Things Are, Cleopatra’s Revenge Belly Dancers and of course, Zombies! The 13th Gate will also have a dramatic presence as they pull a horse drawn hearse along the route. Other special groups include the Baton Rouge Big Buddy Program, the Marching Band Project and the Baton Rouge Caledonian Pipes & Drums.
The Grand Marshal of the inaugural parade is the Mummy from the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum. “The LASM Mummy is a perfect representation of Halloween in Baton Rouge. We couldn’t be more proud of our selection and we are very excited,” said Kelley Criscoe, the parade’s founder.
Spectators will be able to give back to the parade by donating non-perishable food to the Food Bank as they pass. The route will include a “no alcohol” zone on Convention Street between 5th and 6th streets.
