Basketball action begins Nov. 30 in 2011 John Herty Memorial Tournament

In honor of the late John Herty, who passed away earlier this year, the Zachary High School basketball tournament has been renamed after the beloved police chief who was an announcer at Zachary High basketball games and for the tournament.

The Zachary Invitational Basketball Tournament (ZIT) has been re-named the 2011 John Herty Memorial Tournament, and high school basketball action begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at ZHS. Admission is $7 per person.

The tournament for the boys and girls basketball teams from high schools in several parishes runs thru Saturday, Dec. 3.

Championship rounds begin Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Zachary High School Lady Broncos are the returning champions of this tournament and return to defend their title. The Lady Broncos will take on girls basketball teams from Baker, Northeast, West Feliciana, Plaquemine, Dutchtown, Broadmoor, Peabody, East Ascension and Port Allen.

The boys Bronco team takes on opponents from Baker, Northeast, East Feliciana, West Monroe, Denham Springs, Scotlandville, New Iberia, Terrebonne, Christian Life, Ouachita and Belaire.

Come out and support the ZHS Bronco and Lady Bronco basketball teams in the 2011 John Herty Memorial Basketball Tournament.
