Volunteers will spend the afternoon working to improve the club’s facilities, through painting, upkeep of the baseball fields, as well as beautification of the surrounding neighborhoods. The project will begin at noon with a spirited kick-off ceremony and free lunch. Volunteers will also receive a free “Building Champions through Service” shirt. At around 12:45 p.m., volunteers will start working and will finish around 5 p.m. Transportation will not be provided to the service project site; however shuttle service may be added to provide ease in transportation from major hotel areas.
“Building Champions through Service” is the third joint community service project between the University of Alabama and LSU over the course of 9 months. Originally stemming from the tornado that affected Tuscaloosa on April 27, the partnership has grown to highlight the reciprocal and mutual beneficial nature of service. Previous projects include a donation drive and a trip to Tuscaloosa to help in the rebuilding efforts during LSU fall break.
LSU Campus Life seeks to enhance student learning through innovative leadership, service and involvement initiatives that enrich the LSU experience. The mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana is to enable all young people from Southeast Louisiana, especially those who need it the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
