In tribute to the late Zachary Police Chief John Herty, the City of Zachary unveiled the Herty Field archway at Zachary Youth Park on Saturday, April 7.

The archway leads to the entrance of Field 1, the Zachary High School Bronco baseball field, and is a custom-made steel commemorative memorial constructed and donated by Fabex, a local fabricating company, owned by Tommy Daigle.

"Chief Herty gave countless hours to the Zachary school system without asking for anything in return. It gives me great joy to see his name over the Zachary High School Field, a place that was dear to his heart,” said Mayor David Amrhein. "Chief Herty loved this community and the youth. He served as a member of the "Chain Gang" for Bronco football, a scorekeeper for Bronco basketball and as an announcer for Bronco baseball games."

The City of Zachary thanks the Daigles for their contribution memorializing Chief Herty.

Chief Herty, who passed away on March 12, 2011, served the Zachary community for over 40 years as a law enforcement officer and then as police chief from 2006 until his death.
