The Zachary High Performing Arts students and teachers in the Drama, Choir and Band Departments will hold a showcase Saturday, April 28, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in the Northwestern Middle School theater.

"We will be showcasing our best performances from this school year, plus come together for several musical theatre production numbers," said Jen Masterson, drama teacher.

ZHS will open its new theatre next year with a huge musical including lots of singing and dancing, and the April 28 showcase is our way of warming up for next year and future performances, said Masterson.

"This showcase will give the community a taste of what's to come!" said Masterson.

The Performing Arts Showcase involves Jason Bower's Bronco Beat students, Donny Alexander's Jazz ensemble students, Jason Venable's Band of Blue students and Jen Masterson's drama students, all of whom will be performing in the showcase.

Musical numbers performed will include Fame, the title number; Thoroughly Modern Millie's "Forget about the Boy" - a tap number; West Side Story's "America"; and The Pajama Game's "Steam Heat" in which students will be recreating the choreography of legendary Broadway choreographer Bob Fosse.

Bronco Beat will perform several numbers and drama studentds will be performing a scene from the one act play, Rabbit Hole. "Our drama students took the Rabbit Hole piece to the district speech rally and won first place!" said Masterson. "We will also bring it to LSU Saturday, April 21, for state competition where we hope to earn a superior rating."

The Jazz Ensemble will accompany singing and dancing students during the Fame number.

Masterson said it's a busy time of year and all the departments are busy with other performances, but she hopes the Zachary community will come out to support the ZHS Showcase to enjoy a night of talented students singing, dancing, acting and playing music.

Check back later today, April 17, on where to purchase tickets and cost of admission.
