Centreville Academy's Michael Pate, 19, of Ethel, signed with Louisiana College in Pineville on Tuesday, April 24.

Pate is considered a utility player who occasionally wears more than one jersey number during a game. Due to Pate's versatility, he has played the positions of line backer, full back, tight end, defensive end, left guard, defensive tackle and long snapper.

The Centreville High athlete has been voted by MAIS coaches as an All-Star, and he played at Mississippi College in the All-Star game last November.

Throughout Pate's high school football career, he has been named All-District Line Backer, All-District Tight End and All-District Full Back. In addition, Pate was named Special Teams Combine King in 2010 at the National Underclassmen Combine event held at Zachary High's Bronco Stadium.

Pate has been ranked No. 2 long snapper in the nation by ProSnapper, with an average snapping time of .75. "His ability of getting down the field to make a play on the receiver makes him a valuable player," said his mom, Wendy Pate.

Pate will be headed to Pineville in mid-May where he will begin training and competing for a starting position his freshman year.

"I thank God, my family, my church and my coaches for my success," said Michael Pate at his signing reception Tuesday.

Pate is the son of Mike and Wendy Pate of Ethel. Wendy is the advertising manager of the Zachary Plainsman News and Extra, the St. Francisville Democrat, The Watchman and the Feliciana Trader.

Congratulations, Michael, on your success!
