The mural, titled "Heroes of Harding Field," features the work of Baton Rouge Gallery artist Charles Barbier.
A special reception celebrating the mural will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
The public, especially war veterans, are invited to attend.
Barbier, a Baton Rouge Gallery artist member since 1994 and a U.S. military veteran, sought to make the mural historically sound. The piece depicts various WWII scenes, the Harding Field emblem and a few hidden messages.
"I want park visitors to gain a new respect for those who fought in the war," said Barbier.
During World War II, Greenwood Community Park, then called the "Ammo Dump" housed an ammunitions depot which supported Harding Air Field.
