The vote was split with Board President Elaine Davis and board members Shona Boxie and Dana Carpenter voting in favor and board members Doris Alexander and Troy Watson opposing.

Also, two teachers and the human resources supervisor resigned for personal reasons.

An agenda item to reassign the athletic director duties to the head football coach at Baker High School was tabled.

Football Coach Robert Raines resigned May 21 and the board voted 3-2 to delay action until a new football coach is hired. Boxie, Carpenter and Watson voted in favor of tabling the action. Alexander and Davis opposed.

Gary Mitchell served as athletic director for 2 1/2 years during which he improved facilities, promoted girls’ athletics and allowed non-athletes to participate in sports. Starting last June he also taught three classes while directing the athletic program.
