Bronco baseball players - current and former - are no strangers to volunteer work. ZHS head baseball coach Jesse Cassard believes in his players giving back to the community.

Every season Cassard requires that his players perform so many hours of community service work in order to be a member of the team.

Recently, the Broncos worked around Baton Rouge with inner city kids teaching them baseball maneuvers and hitting and catching techniques in a project titled Operation First Base.

With Operation First Base, the ZHS baseball team worked with the Scotlandville baseball team on this community outreach project.

"Both schools donated plenty of baseball gear and equipment to the less fortunate players and a free concert was held after the six hours of work the boys put in," said Cassard.

Coach M.I. Woodruff, who is retired from Parkview Baptist, now works with the Istrouma Sports Organization. He orchestrates the community outreach projects every year.
