Baker Police officers have apprehended a suspect accused of shooting at a group of people after a fight had taken place in front of an apartment complex in Baker, said Police Chief Mike Knaps.

Jecody Ricardo Spann, 17, of 4305 Greenwood Lane in Baker, was arrested June 13 for shooting at a group of people near the area of Buffet Street in the Heritage Court neighborhood, Knaps said.

The shooting stemmed from an earlier disturbance that occurred on Groom Road in front of the Camelia Trace apartment complex, where a fist fight erupted between a group of girls, said Knaps.

Detectives with the Baker's Criminal Investigations Division later learned that Spann had opened fired upon the group after the fight had de-escalated, Knaps said.

Knaps said one of the victims, a juvenile, barely escaped being struck by one of the bullets by about three feet.

Spann was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a firearm.
