The Annual Johnny Wales Co-Ed Softball Tournament - originally set for July 14 - has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 28, due to an abundance of rain at the ballpark last week.

About 15 teams are currently scheduled to play July 28 at Zachary Youth Park, but the Wales' family says there is still time if any new teams would like to register.

Cost to play is $150 per team, and those interested in putting a team in the tournament should contact Brandon Wales at 225-939-0492 immediately.

All money raised at this event will go toward a scholarship for a graduating Zachary High School senior, with a portion going to the MS Foundation.

The community is invited to come out and support this wonderful event - either to play or root on your favorite team!

In addition, concessions will be sold at the event along with t-shirts.

When the Wales Memorial tournament first began four years ago, $500 was raised for a scholarship awarded to a lucky ZHS graduate.

The next year, $1,000 was given to a graduating senior, followed by a $1,500 scholarship the next year.

In 2012, the Wales family was able to award two scholarships to two lucky seniors. "It was because of all the support we received from the Zachary community that we were able to do what we did last year," the Wales family said. "We're hoping to continue the tradition."

Individuals and/or businesses interested in donating money or gift cards to the tournament - either for the scholarship or to the winning softball team or the team with the most homeruns - should contact Brandon Wales at 225-939-0492.
