Baker Firefighters have announced the latest addition to their fleet of service vehicles, a new six-wheel ATV to be used for calls relating to grass, land and wood fires.

Baker Fire Department spokesperson Howard Ward said the new ATV was purchased through an Urban Areas Security Initiative grant for $33,900.

Ward said the new ATV will also be used off-road rescue calls where access is hampered by poor or wet terrain.

The new six-wheeler has a gas engine, a 95-gallon water tank and 5-gallon foam tank complete with hose and nozzles to be used for fighting fires and room in the back for other rescue-related equipment such as a stretcher for the injured, Ward said.
