The necessity for the Starting the School Year with Confidence and Pride campaign was created to assist the 13,000 children living in poverty in our community. Educational opportunities can break the cycle of poverty and reduce the chance that these kids will become homeless. Challenges faced by disadvantaged students are difficult to solve, however the annual Uniforms for Kids effort makes a real difference by reducing the impact of poverty, preserving the dignity of needy children, and encouraging them to stay in the classroom.
CH2M HILL is pleased to partner with solid community stewards such as Arcadis, Beau Box, CSRS, Full Circle Communications, Grady Crawford Construction, Hartman Engineering, ILSI Engineering, Magnolia Construction, Max Foote Construction, Monroe & Corie, MWH, Professional Engineering Consultants, SEMs Inc., Shread-Kuyrkendall, SIGMA Consulting, SJB Group and URS to raise $30,000 towards the campaign.
Michael Acaldo, President & CEO of St. Vincent de Paul said, “For families that are barely able to put food on the table, buying new clothes for growing children is not always possible. Sometimes these children have to go to school in last year’s uniforms that are torn, stained, or just too small. Even worse is having no uniform at all. And that’s what excites us about the CH2M HILL and Partners contribution. It is the largest contribution we will receive, and this financial gift will help us reach our ambitious goal of helping 13,000 needy children in our community. We couldn’t do it without them.”
A special event will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul’s facility located at 2655 Plank Road, Baton Rouge.
Volunteers from CH2M HILL and Partners will join other community leaders in helping to distribute uniforms to needy children already enrolled in the program, and will officially present their $30,000 financial gift.”
