East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office detectives have linked accused kidnapper and rapist Michael Rushing, 48, of 14185 Brown Road in Baker, to the rape of a child in 2000, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, EBRSO spokesperson in a news release.

Zachary Police assisted Louisiana State Police in a traffic stop on July 27 after he allegedly abducted a 22-year-old woman from the Bone and Joint Clinic, located at 7301 Hennessy Blvd. in Baton Rouge. The woman was exiting her vehicle and about to walk into the clinic for a check-up when Rushing kidnapped her, authorities have said.

EBRSO detectives say they also believe that in 2000, Rushing picked up a 14-year-old girl out walking in her neighborhood, said Hicks.

Rushing has been booked into EBR Parish Prison and charged with second-degree kidnapping and forcible rape for the 2000 incident, Hicks said.

In the 2000 alleged rape, Hicks said Rushing forced the teenage victim into a truck, blindfolded her and drove her to a house where he proceeded to rape her.

After the attack, Rushing drove the young girl back to her neighborhood where he dropped her off, said Hicks.

In the attack last month, Rushing was armed with a gun and ordered the young woman into his truck, then drove her to a wooded area in Iberville Parish where he raped her, authorities have said.

Police said that after raping the woman, Rushing apologized to the victim and let her put her clothes back on, his arrest warrant says. He then dropped her off at a McDonald’s on Nicholson Drive, police have said.

Rushing was booked into EBRPP for the Essen Lane case July 28 and charged with aggravated rape and second-degree kidnapping.
