A 17-year-old Zachary teen was arrested Saturday and charged with the rape of an 11-year-old girl, said Police Chief David McDavid.

Iren Khari Fields, 17, of 5044 Rollins Road, has been accused of contacting the Zachary girl via the Internet, McDavid said in a telephone interview with the Plainsman.

McDavid said Fields has been in trouble with the law before for various crimes and was already in jail when the ZPD issued the current rape and solicitation charges.

Fields was charged and booked Aug. 4 for aggravated rape and computer-aided solicitation of a minor, McDavid said.

Zachary detectives initiated their investigation on Fields after a source alerted them to his recent web postings and cell phone interaction.

Fields was originally booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on June 16.
