Hosted by LSU University College’s Executive Director Paul Ivey, the highlight of the Pigskin Preview was a visit by LSU Head Football Coach Les Miles, who addressed the Advisory Board with an overview of the upcoming football season.
The day began with a testimony by Avoyee Cummings, a Southern University student counselor, who interned with LSU University College to explore academic counseling during the summer of 2012.
Following the welcome and introductions, Advisory Board members toured LSU’s Business Education Complex. Then it was off to the LSU Football Operations Building to visit with Coach Miles and receive an overview of the upcoming football season.
The day finalized with lunch and a brief business meeting. LSU University College Advisory Board members on hand for this year’s event were Norman Deumite, Board Chair (Deumite Construction), Tim Abendroth (Abendroth Investments), Daniel M. Bruce (Cheramie/Whitney Architects, APC), John L. Daniel Jr. (Chase Bank), Becky Rogers (Coca-Cola Bottling Company), Paul Tweedy (Bank of Jena) and Honorary member Carolyn Collins, Ph.D. (LSU University College – Emeritus).
About University College
Since its establishment in 1933 as “Lower Division,” University College has served as the portal of entry for most incoming freshmen enrolling at LSU.
It also serves many returning students and transfer students who are not yet eligible for admission to a degree-granting senior college on campus.
The two enrollment divisions of University College are The Center for Freshman Year and The Center for Advising and Counseling. In addition, University College offers retention-specific programs: Student Support Serves, Ronald E. McNair Research Scholars, and Summer Scholars.
These academic support programs focus on particular student populations and are a significant part of the role and mission of University College.
