Broncos feel 48-34 sting from Scotlandville Hornets

The Scotlandville Hornets rolled up 568 yards of total offense and stung Zachary for a 48-34 win over the Broncos.

Scotlandville (4-2, 2-0) scored first when Darion Williams connected with Larry Clark for a 21-yard touchdown for a 6-0 lead after the kick failed.

The Hornets pushed ahead 14-0 in the second period when Dontrell Hilliard scored on a 4-yard run and then added the two-point conversion.

Zachary (4-3, 0-2) closed the gap to 14-7 on a 2-yard run by Forrest Town and a kick from Jacob Garrett.

Scotlandville responded with a 5-yard run by Hilliard and a PAT for a 21-7 advantage.

Boston Scott’s 1-yard run and Garrett’s PAT pulled the Broncos closer at 21-14, but the Hornets took a 28-14 advantage into the locker room when A’Darian Northern scored on a 57-yard strike from Williams.

Scotlandville scored in the third period on a 51-yard run by Hilliard as the Hornets forged ahead, 34-14.

Zachary battled back when Trey Hills connected with Donald Gage for a 34-yard touchdown, and Garret’s kick closed the gap to 34-21.

Hilliard (21 carries for 212 yards) scored his fourth touchdown of the game with a 66-yard run, but the Broncos responded with a 36-yard scoring strike from Hills to Kendrell Fisher to close the margin to 40-27.

Scotlandville’s final eight points came when Ryan Hubbard recovered a fumble in the end zone, and Williams found Leon Alexander open for the two-point conversion.

Zachary scored last when Justin Kinchen caught an 11-yard pass from Hills, and Garrett hit another PAT.

The Broncos finished with 186 yards rushing and another 280 in the air.

Scott rushed 24 times for 145 yards to lead the Broncos. Hills completed 19 of 31 passes for 280 yards.

The Hornets piled up 457 yards rushing and 91 passing in the win.

Zachary hosts Walker (2-5, 0-2) who lost to Central, 54-24.

It's Homecoming week for the Zachary Broncos.
