Cecilia – Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Fred John Huval Sr., 79, who passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at his residence in Cecilia.

Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Rev. Lloyd Benoit and Rev. Donald Pousson officiated at the funeral mass. Readers were Sam Stander, Bonnie Rodriguez and Russell Champagne. Gift bearers were Murphy Jane Acosta, Darian, Hannah and Jolie Bourgeois. Musical selections were provided by his brother, Leo “Pope” Huval.

A native of Cecilia, Fred owned and operated Huval Tractor for 30 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty A. Huval of Cecilia; his sons, Terry J. Huval Sr. and his wife Debbie of Houston, Texas, Brian J. Huval and his wife Theresa of Breaux Bridge, Fred J. Huval Jr. and his wife Monica of Lafayette, and John Peralta Sr. and his wife Jody of Cecilia; his daughters, Juanita Huval and Julie Viator both of Lafayette; his brothers, William Huval and his wife Ethel of Parks, Patrick Huval and his wife Louise of Parks, and Leo “Pope” Huval and his wife Judy of Cecilia; his sister, Nita Champagne and her husband Alton of Parks; sisters-in-law, Yvonne C. Huval of Cecilia and Anna Lou C. Huval of Parks; his 10 grandchildren, Jessica, John Jr., Jena, Jamie, Felicia, Terry Jr., Joshua, Erin, Jaydon and Kenny; and six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Darian, Hannah, Jolie, Amelie and Sophia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldus “Bala” and Helen Guidry Huval; and his brothers, George O Huval Sr., and Paul A. Huval.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Pallbearers were Fred J. Huval Jr., John Peralta Sr., Terry J. Huval Sr., Brian J. Huval, Julie Viator, John Peralta Jr. Joshua Huval and Terry J. Huval Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were his brothers, William, Patrick and Pope Huval, Ernest Friedman, J. J. Dupre, Alton Champagne, Albert Duhe and Guilford Acosta.

Special thanks to Hospice Care of Louisiana, Dr. Mike Mounir, Dr. Kemp Coreil and Leola Journet for their care and compassion given to Fred during his illness.
