"We have had one burglary that was quickly handled and the suspect is in jail," Trabona stated.
The officers were all out during the height of the storm. The loss of cell phone service has presented a slow down of connection between officers and the station. Amite officers are patrolling heavily checking residences and businesses at night. "We are watching homes and patrolling constantly. We have more officers out stopping people out after dark to ensure the safety of Amite citizens." Trabona said.
Chief Trabona urges people to watch out for one another as well. Keep contact with your family and neighbors. If you know of any elderly people that might need assistance, be supportive and try to help them or contact someone who can.
