Three have been charged and one is being sought in a stabbing that occurred in Ville Platte late Wednesday, September 3.

Sgt. Joseph “Plywood” Fontenot said officers responded to the 100 block of East Oak at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday in reference to an altercation and stabbing.

Ville Platte officers arrived along with Louisiana State Police (LSP) Swat and several Military Police (MP) officers. Five people were taken into custody as an investigation began into the stabbing.

Fontenot said a fight between several people occurred. At the conclusion of the first incident, one of the persons involved began a fight with another male subject who had been standing in the yard observing the altercation. The victim got away from the man and ran into his house and was chased by several people who continued to hit him, according to witnesses. Fontenot said the victim pulled a knife he had hidden under the sofa in the living room and began sticking it forward in an attempt to get the others off of him. One person was stabbed in the shoulder and another in the leg. Both refused medical attention from Acadian Ambulance.

As a result of this incident, officers have charged the following with simple battery and unauthorized entry:

•Sanchez Freeman, 25, 1150 Chantel Road, Ville Platte.

•Mitchell Carl Henderson, 23, 108 E. Oak St., Ville Platte.

•Andre Henderson, 21, 121 E. Jackson, Ville Platte.

A fourth suspect has not been apprehended, Fontenot said.

The investigation is ongoing, and the information will be turned over to the district attorney’s office. He said the case may be brought before a grand jury to see if the stabbing was justifiable. At this time, no charges have been filed against the person identified as the stabber.

Fontenot said the department wanted to thank LSP and the MPs for securing the scene and working with them in this case. “It was a very controlled environment due to the police presence.” On behalf of the department and Chief Neal Lartigue, he thanked them.
