On October 5, at approximately 10:30 p.m, Zachary Police Sgt. Michael White, Officers Ricky Faust, Ty Stephens and Brian Morris were the first to respond to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 19 north of Spur Lane.

Upon arrival to the scene, the vehicle was engulfed in flames and two passengers were trapped inside.

Officers determined that the driver of the vehicle was deceased but the passenger was still alive.

The Zachary officers were successful in extricating the passenger just as the Zachary Fire Department arrived on the scene and then transported the victim to Lane RMC.

"Without the swift actions of these courageous men, there possibly could have been two fatalities," said Zachary Police Chief John Herty.

"I would like to commend these officers for their selfless and brave actions, disregarding their own safety, to save the life of another," added Herty.
