The Cowboys dug themselves into an early hole and made a valiant comeback but fell short as the Springfield Bulldogs came away with a 14-13 win over Sumner. The Cowboys made too many mistakes in the game.
Sumner fumbled the ball away once and threw an interception that help attribute to the Bulldogs win over the Cowboys. Sumner once again got a solid effort from DeAndre Walker in the game.
Walker led the Cowboys with 92-yards rushing on fifteen carries. After a scoreless first quarter the Bulldogs would score first on a three-yard run and with the two-point conversion Springfield led 8-0.
The visiting Bulldogs would hold that lead at half and then add to their lead in the third quarter with a one yard run. The Bulldogs once again tried for the two-point conversion but failed and their lead stood at 14-0 in the third quarter.
Sumner then came to life as they got on the board in the third quarter when Jordan Griffin scored on an eleven yard run. Nehemia Warren then tacked on the PAT and the Cowboys were right back in the game down 14-7.
The score remained that way as the two teams entered the fourth quarter with the game still very much in the air. Sumner would again have an opportunity at victory and the Cowboys regained possession of the football and embarked on a nice drive.
Sumner pulled within one point of the Bulldogs when Shakyle Robertson scored on a three yard run to cut the Springfield lead to 14-13. Sumner then lined up to try and tie the game by attempting the Point After Try.
But the kick was no good and Springfield still led 14-13. Springfield would hold on to the lead and went on to win the game 14-13. Sumner is now 1-3 on the season and they will hit the road this week to take on the Loranger Wolves in district 10-3A action.
