
The Rice Palace in Crowley and the VFW Post were the settings for the Crowley High Class reunion of 1963 held Friday and Saturday October 17 and 18 were, seated from left, Libby Cowen Adams, Ann Malone Valdetero, Sandra Hickey Nolan, Janis Walton Coignard, Eileen Pommier Hall, Bernice Prather McElwee, Betty Miciotto Rougeau and Warren Frederick; second row standing were Ted Seaton, Shelton Simon, Alice Ann Buchanan Schwendimann, Kathy Libby Hynes, Jane Finley, Linda Hanks Rolen, Frankie Beverung Beers, Sandra Rue Dickey, Patricia Theriot Schilz, Bob Devellevue and Kenneth Barousse; third row were Larry Simon, Margaret Williams Sauer, Robert Gautreaux, Dana Bohley Hickman, Susan Black Fields and Bill Scholl; last row were Lee Lawrence, Taylor Cain, Sam Corzine, Katrina Van Fosson, Daryl Broussard, Dennis LaFleur and Charles DeBellevue. Not present at the time of photo were Carolyn Hayes Earles, Louby Faulk and Johnny Pryor.
Friday evening, the class gathered at the Rice Palace, where they enjoyed a meal of jambalaya cooked by Larry Simon and homemade rolls cooked by Shelton Simon’s 89-year-old mother.
On Saturday, classmates gathered at the VFW Post in Crowley, where they feasted on brisket, rice dressing, green beans and bread pudding.
Decorations, provided by Reunion Committee Members Betty Miciotto Rougeau, Sandra Hickey Nolan, Carolyn Hayes Earles and Bernice Prather McElwee, were Crowley High School memorabilia, such with green and gold tablecloths, pom poms, top hats and flowers accented with olive green ribbons.
Classmates enjoyed entertainment by TLB Occasions both days.
Among the awards presented were those who traveled the furthest, Kenneth Barousse from Indio, California; Patricia Theriot Schilz and Noel Schliz from Kent, Washington. Married longest was Sandra Rue Dickey, and having the most grandchildren was Dennis LaFleur.
Also honored were veterans Charles DeBellevue, Linda Rolen Hanks, Taylor Cain, Warren Frederick, Shelton Simon, Larry Simon and Teddy Seaton.
The class also recognized deceased classmates Shelton Bertrand, Chi Chi Crawford, Darrell Hebert, Hazel Hoffpauir, Francis Johnson, Darrell Linscomb, Janet Mire Broussard, Kelly Perry, Arthur Stakes, Jeff Tiger, Glenn Valdetero, Janice Richard Mathis and Pete Nolan.
Fifty-eight guests attended the reunion, traveling from such places as Indio, California; Rutledge, Georgia; Edmund, Oklahoma; Tampa, Florida; various sites throughout Texas including Beevill, Spring, Houston, Everman, Katy, Baytown, Orange, Austin and Galveston. They also traveled from numerous spots in Louisiana including Crowley, Lake Charles, Shreveport, Lafayette, New Orleans, Metarie, Rayne, Gretna, Ville Platte, Henderson, Slidell, Baton Rouge and Estherwood.
The next planned reunion for the class will be in 2013.
