DUSON – A Duson city official and Lafayette businessman has been arrested by Lafayette police on a warrant from Jefferson Parish on charges of principal to theft.

Officers on Tuesday arrested Jimmy Champagne at his business, Champage’s Printing.

Champagne is a Duson alderman and serves as mayor pro-temp.

Col. John Fortunato, public information officer for Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the warrant was issued July 10 and stemmed from a complaint from a delivery driver for a company in Harahan.

Fortunato said the driver reported that Champagne allegedly was trying to make a deal with him to deliver extra items to his business to be paid on the side and in cash.
