They say that competition breeds success when it comes to sports and life in general.  That saying is something that Zachary Baseball Coach Jesse Cassard lives by.  “We feel like we get much more out of playing a very difficult schedule.  It helps us to face some of the best teams and players in the state each week.”

The Zachary Baseball Team’s 2009 Schedule is as tough as any in the state and the payoff of playing challenging teams has produced back-to-back state titles in Class 4A over the last two seasons.  Last week the Broncos had another solid week of action.

Zachary finished the week perfect with big wins of Fontainbleau and Morgan City and the Broncos played to a tie against 4A Neville.  To give you a greater sense of the caliber of teams the Broncos have faced here is a little insight.  The Broncos are now 8-4-1 on the season.

Zachary has already played the likes of top ranked 4A Sam Houston and 2nd ranked 4A Benton.  The Broncos beat 4th ranked Morgan City and this week alone will take on 5th ranked 5A power St. Paul and one of the best teams in the state each season in 3rd ranked and defending 3A Champion Parkview Baptist.

Coach Cassard does have a veteran ball club but he wants to be able to help develop and give experience to some of the younger players that he will be counting on as well.  “We have a lot of upperclassmen that have had great success and we want the younger guys to be able to face some of the best teams as well and get a feel for what they will face in the post season,” said Coach Cassard.

Zachary is getting set for another big week that will conclude with a head to head meeting with Parkview as both teams are coming together for a very worthy cause.  The “Real Men Wear Pink” Doubleheader will take place this Saturday at the Zachary Youth Park.

The teams are not taking admission to the games but instead are asking for fans to make donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness.  Coach Cassard says that the team’s playing is a big deal but helping those in need is a greater cause.

“We want to help our local community as much as we can and we are hoping that many people will come out and donate to the foundation and watch two very good teams play for a great cause.”

Coach Cassard says that his Broncos will dress in honor of Cancer Victims as Zachary will have a lot of Pink included in their uniforms when they hit the Diamond on Saturday Morning.  The first game of a doubleheader begins at 11AM.
