The Rayville Police Department has arrested five people in connection with an early morning robbery at Riverfield Academy.

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson said the burglary occurred between 1 and 1:30 a.m. March 17 when Riverfield’s main office and several classrooms were burglarized.

“The suspects gained entry through a window and, once inside the school, they used a crowbar to pry open the doors to the main office along with the door to the principal’s office,” he said.

The suspects then took au undetermined amount of coins from the school before leaving the scene.

RPD Investigator Tamario Turner and Officer Reginald Washington joined together to clear the burglary, Robinson said.

“The officers kept working on this case until they were able to develop some local suspects who did not attend the school,” he said.

The following suspects were arrested as a result of the investigation.

James Briggs Jr., 22, of 502 Pine St., Rayville, was charged with simple burglary.

Robert M. Waller, 20, 192 East First St., Delhi, was charged with simple burglary, criminal damage to property and shoplifting.

Tevin D. Freeman, 18, of 309 Jones St., Rayville, was charged with simple burglary.

The police also arrested two juveniles on charges of simple burglary and damage to property for their alleged roles in the burglary.

“I would like to commend my officers for their untiring efforts to make Rayville a better place,” Robinson said.
