Students from all Eunice elementary, junior high and high schools entered and participated in the contest.
First, second and third place winners were awarded for their creativity and originality of the essays and drawings. They received savings bonds, trophies, and plaques.
The special awards ceremony took place on April 8 at the Eunice V.F.W. Hall. Some of the V.F.W. Post and Ladies Auxiliary members were present and awarded each student. Those included: Al Courville, Post Commander; Bonita Briscoe, Auxiliary chairperson; Dot Soileau, President Ladies Auxiliary; and Gene Olivier, Assistant Inspector General of Veterans of Foreign War. A meal was provided at the conclusion for all parents and students.
Students winning first place receives $100 savings bond; second place a $75 bond; and third place is awarded with a $50 savings bond. Students also received trophies.
