Twenty-one persons, including a school bus driver, who didn’t hear the train a’coming, or if they did ignored it, received citations in Eunice on Tuesday.

Police and railroad officials conducted a train awareness and safety check at crossings.

Officers who take part in the semi-annual crossing checks are routinely astounded by the numbers of drivers who disregard warning signals or train whistles to beat the steel behemoth over the tracks.

The off-duty bus driver ticketed on Tuesday had minor children in the car with her, police said. They did not say which parish she drives for.

Each person ticketed will have the opportunity in City Court, if they choose, to tell the judge why they were in such a hurry.
