Lake Arthur High School honored its best and brightest academicians at its annual Honors Banquet held Thursday evening, May 8, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. Senior honor students were, Denver Brown, Tiffany Conner*, Mary Cooper, Sarah Gatte, Jaron Hayes, Brittany LeJeune, Jason Suire, Margo Surface*, Tyler Trahan, Brandi Welch*, and Cara Zaunbrecher (denotes perfect 4.0 averages).

The Jean Lafitte Pirates RV Club met at A and M Campground in Lyons Point on May 1-4, 2008 for a great weekend of camping. Those Pirates enjoying the campout were Sonny and Hershal Abshire, Claude and Lana Breaux, Wilbert and Ida Broussard, C.S. and Laudry Darbonne, Lander and Mae Duhon, Royal and Debbie Hebert, Fredman and Ethel Theriot and Bobbie Williams. Dale and Elaine Hebert (children of Royal and Debbie) were guests of the Pirates.

Newly elected officers for the Lake Arthur Women's Library Club for the year 2008 were Debbie Abshire-President; Lisa Oustalet-Vice President; Lou Marcantel-Recording Secretary; Cindy Mallett-Corresponding Secretary; and Beth Daigle-Treasurer.

New Lake Arthur Women's Library Club members for the year 2008 were Adrianne Moore, Rana LeBlanc, Tess Savoie, Janet Marceaux, Rosie Shaw, and Nella Cormier.

OLI students were counting the money donated to the Children's Miracle Network Penny Campaign to help the children of Southwest Louisiana. The students pictured were Isaac Trahan, Kain Babineaux, and Clay Brummett.

Lake Arthur High School's Athletic Awards Program was held Tuesday evening, May 6, 2008 in the Wilbert C. "Nooky" Moore Gymnasium in Lake Arthur. Special Awards went to:

--Amy Chapman, Dickie Chapman Memorial Award;

--Josh Sonnier, Jimmy Monvoisin Memorial Award;

--Denver Brown, Martha "Tiny" Fox Memorial Award;

--Durrell Prudhomme, Allen Charles Williams Memorial Award;

--Amy Chapman, Desra Giles Memorial Award;

--Durrell Prudhomme, Cory Jones, Colby Lavergne, Ben Bonin, and Gabby Doland, All District and Above Awards;

--Brad Armentor, Boys Sportsmanship Award;

--Kadie Bonin, Girls Sportsmanship Award;

--Amy Chapman, Best All-Around Girl Athlete;

--Denver Brown, Best All-Around Boy Athlete;

--Gabby Doland, Denver Brown, L.A.H.S. Scholastic Awards.

The annual “Toasts Under the Oaks Program” was held near the lake in Lake Arthur. “Students of the Year” were Ben Ransom, Lake Arthur High School; Joshua Price, Lake Arthur Jr. High; and Victoria Fuselier, Lake Arthur Elementary School.

Miya Logan Breaux, the daughter of Jonathan and Chrystal Breaux of Lake Arthur, had celebrated her second birthday on May 11, 2005.

Kayla Christine Bonin and Joseph Rocky Hall were announcing their engagement and approaching marriage to be held Saturday, May 10, 2003.
