It was gut check time for Coach David Masterson’s young Northeast Vikings. The Vikings were coming off a disappointing loss to Sumner the week before which dropped their record to 1-3.

But the Vikings showed a lot of pride and played with a lot of heart in their big 12-6 win over the 1A Southern Lab Kittens. The Vikings put together their best defensive effort of the season against the Kittens.

The Vikings suffocated the Kittens all game long and held them to just 44-yards of total offense. The Viking defense did not allow a score in the game as the Kittens’ only points came from a kickoff return.

While the Vikings defense was constantly shutting down the Southern Lab offense, the Northeast offense was grinding out big yards on the ground. Northeast rushed for 224-yards rushing in the game and got a huge outing from Darren Ellis.

Ellis rushed for 162-yards on 21 carries in the game. Ellis averaged a whopping 7.7 yards per attempt in the game. Northeast’s O-Line dominated the line of scrimmage throughout the game.

Leroy Williams scored on a 23-yard run and Damien Wicker added a three-yard run for a touchdown for the Vikings. Northeast is now 2-3 on the season.
