Louisiana State Superintendent Paul Pastorek visited the number one school district in the state for the first time last Tuesday, Oct. 6.
For the past four years, the Zachary school district has ranked top in school performance scores.
The purpose of Pastorek's trip was to visit as many schools as possible. He was able to view some of the new facilities at Northwestern Middle, talk to young pupils at Northwestern Elementary, and have lunch with students at Zachary High School.
While at ZHS, Pastorek dropped in on kids in Ms. Cathy Conerly's AgScience lab who were busy working on a catfish farm and chinchilla ranch.
"This is an area of great interest to me," said Pastorek after talking with welding instructor Mr. Davis Rayborn. He also remarked on the importance of having students exposed to the industrial curriculum while still in high school.
"This is the first time the State Superintendent Pastorek has visited the Zachary Community School District and we are extremely proud to have him here," said Zachary Superintendent Warren Drake.
Pastorek also expressed his enthusiasm for the ZCSD, its teachers and students.
