U.S. News & World Report has again ranked Southern University and A&M College among the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the country. The results of the magazine’s annual “Best Black Colleges” survey were released Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Southern Chancellor Dr. Kofi Lomotey said every component of the university contributed to the fourth consecutive “top tier” rating. “We arrived at this point through the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff and administration,” he said. “But none of it would be possible without a student body that continues to show the rest of the world that they are ready and willing to be civic and global leaders.

He said the university has excelled even though it has faced a string of state budget cuts. “State government has always put Southern in the position of having to do more with less. Yet, we consistently outperform even our own high expectations.”

The magazine’s annual university ranking examines factors such as SAT scores, graduation rates, peer reviews and alumni giving.
