Human remains found near Port Hudson Cemetery have been identified

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s detectives have confirmed through DNA analysis that the human remains found in a creek near port Hickey Road are those of Elvin Dalcourt Jr., 46, of 215 Brice Street in Baton Rouge.

Authorities were notified by a man who had been fishing in a waterway near the Port Hudson National Cemetery on July 15, who said he discovered the human remains in a creek bed about 6:30 p.m. that evening, EBRSO spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

Dalcourt was last seen leaving his residence on June 24 and was reported missing to the Baton Rouge Police Department on June 25.

Hicks said evidence shows the cause of death as a gunshot wound.

EBRSO detectives are asking the public for assistance with any information about Dalcourt’s disappearance and death. Anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to contact the EBRSO at 389-5000.
